Frequently asked questions.

Do you take insurance?

Bello Cognitive Therapy is an out-of-network, self-pay practice. Payment is collected at the time of service and a superbill is provided monthly for individuals to submit to insurance for reimbursement. The good news: Therapy is covered by insurance and many of my clients are often reimbursed!

What are the benefits of being out-of-network?

As is the case with many experienced psychologists, I have made the deliberate decision not to participate in any insurance panels. This allows me the ability to work privately for you, the client, and not the insurance company. Many clients and families prefer to work with a psychologist outside of their insurance plans for a variety of reasons, some of which include:

  • Insurance companies typically require disclosure of treatment plans, session notes, and sometimes even personal health information. Opting out of insurance helps safeguard client confidentiality.

  • Additionally, since I am out-of-network, we don’t have to comply with their potential requirements for frequency and duration of sessions. This allows us to structure appointments and time management in a way that benefits your needs and availability.

  • Further, I am able to provide treatment that is a more specialized, tailored approach to care rather than being dictated by a certain type of treatment that is determined by the insurance company in order to control their costs.

  • Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

What should I ask my insurance company?

Did you know that insurance companies are more likely to reimburse for out-of-network care if 1. there is no in-network provider with the professional training and expertise to treat or provide health care services for your diagnosis and 2. your insurance company cannot provide reasonable access to an in-network provider with the professional training and expertise to treat or provide health care services for the diagnosis without unreasonable delay or travel.

It is recommended that before you begin therapy you contact your insurance provider to confirm that you have out-of-network coverage for psychotherapy and to verify whether you need pre-approval.

Questions to ask: Do I have out-of-network coverage? If so, is there an annual deductible that must be met before coverage is provided? What percentage do you cover for out-of-network mental health providers? Is there a maximum amount you reimburse per visit or per year?

Is teletherapy appropriate for my child?

In my experience, teletherapy can be effective for adolescents 14 and older. However, I currently see preteens who are also successfully completing therapy via videoconference. I would be happy to have a discussion to determine if your preteen/adolescent would be appropriate for teletherapy services! I currently offer limited evening availability.
