Why Teletherapy?
Simply put, teletherapy works. One thing we have learned after the COVID pandemic is that it is possible to do good, effective therapy by video conference. Research has shown that teletherapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. My clients have expressed a high degree of satisfaction with teletherapy as well. Specifically, the accessible, feasible, and flexible nature of teletherapy. And while teletherapy is not recommended for everyone, I find that it is preferred by many of my clients.
Additionally, since I am able to see individuals across the United States, I will often transition with clients who are going to college, moving back with family, going on vacation (if they wish to still have therapy that week!), and moving due to switching jobs or receiving promotions. I utilize a secure, HIPAA-compliant video conference platform to ensure confidentiality is protected. For clients worried about privacy from other members living in the home, I recommend using a sound machine and I also talk to parents directly to receive their consent that their child’s privacy will be respected.
In my experience, teletherapy can be effective for most adolescents 14 and older. However, I currently see preteens who are also successfully completing therapy via videoconference. I would be happy to have a discussion to determine if your preteen/adolescent would be appropriate for teletherapy services! I currently offer limited evening availability.
What to expect in a therapy session:
Prior to Starting: I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation prior to beginning treatment. This allows me to learn more information to determine if I may be a good fit for your needs. It also allows you to determine if you think I may be a good fit for you!
Weekly or Biweekly Sessions: Most clients begin individual therapy once a week for 45-minute sessions. There is also the option to be scheduled every other week, depending on your symptoms. When someone is in crisis or having difficulty functioning in daily life, more frequent sessions may be recommended until symptoms improve.
Goal Setting: At the beginning of therapy, we’ll work together to identify your goals. These can evolve over time as you make progress or as new challenges arise.
Effective Strategies and Skill Building: You’ll learn specific cognitive and behavioral coping strategies, stress management or relaxation tools, and/or communication skills that can help you manage your symptoms.
